Farmhouse Cut Apples
Bramley Apples for Cooking
Bramley apples are held in the highest regard by cooks the world over for their sharp and characteristic flavour. This unique taste comes from its unique combination of high levels of malic acid and low sugar content. The one-of-a-kind flavour is the reason why Bramley apples remain a firm favourite in kitchens everywhere when it comes to making desserts and cakes.
Over sixty years, Glass Brothers have developed and refined our Bramley apple processors. We’re a family-run business and we oversee each part of our production, carefully monitoring what goes into each of our products.
Our orchards are overseen by a fully qualified agronomist who ensures that everything is timed and managed correctly to yield the best quality fruit. We make sure that all our chemical applications are tightly monitored to yield the best taste from our orchards.
All our storage facilities have been converted to ULO (Ultra Low Oxygen) storage and a HACCP system carefully monitors all our Bramley apples. By maintaining exceptionally high standards from growth to harvest to storage and processing, we want only the best from our orchards.
Glass Brothers – Types of Cuts
At Glass Brothers, we supply apples in a variety of cuts depending on our customer’s requirements. Our apples are used to make a variety of products including pie fillings, pulp puree, milled apple, aseptic puree, and of course fresh Bramley apples.
We also provide Bramley apples in slices, diced (5mm, 10mm, 15mm), chunky cuts, irregular cuts (12mm x 12mm x 65mm), and half slices. Our milled apple is mashed and commonly used for mincemeat or condiments. We also have a special farmhouse cut of 15mm x 15mm x 65mm, ideal for pies and crumbles.
Each of these styles of cut has unique benefits and advantages, however, if you’re unsure which would be the most suitable don’t hesitate to get in contact. We’re only too happy to answer any questions about our products.
Glass Brothers – Packaging & Recycling
Customers ordering from Glass Brothers can avail of two kinds of packaging:
- 15 kgs bag in carton
- 20-25 kgs bag in crates
We’re committed to being as environmentally friendly as possible. That’s why we use food-grade liners on all our products, including our farmhouse cut apples. This makes it much easier for our customers to recycle the packaging. Plastic crates can, of course, be returned to Glass Brothers.
We understand that customers might be worried about products becoming damaged during delivery. That’s why we take every step and precaution to make sure that products arrive at their destination in the same condition they were dispatched. All our pallets are stretch-wrapped and shrouded to reduce the risk of in-transit damage.
What preservatives do we use?
It’s important to make sure that all our products are preserved carefully. This creates a longer-lasting product as well as keeps the flavour for longer. Our farmhouse cut apples can be preserved using either ascorbic acid or sodium metabisulphite. There are benefits and drawbacks to either preservative and they can be made to order.
Ascorbic acid, on the one hand, has a somewhat shorter shelf life of around six days. While in contrast, sodium metabisulphite can preserve Bramley apples for up to three weeks depending on the strength. Depending on the customer’s needs and requirements this strength can be manipulated as appropriate.
