Understanding The Bramley Apple Production Process

From the initial stages of cultivation to the final steps of processing, each phase of our process plays a crucial role in delivering the exceptional quality and taste that bramley apples are renowned for. Let’s take a step by step look at how the process works.

1. Cultivation

Our process begins with the careful selection of the orchard location in County Armagh and the planting of bramley apple trees. We ensure that the soil is well-drained and nutrient-rich, providing the perfect foundation for healthy tree growth. Throughout the year, our dedicated team tends to the orchards, meticulously pruning and managing the trees to maximise fruit yield and quality.

2. Blossom and Pollination

As the orchard comes to life in spring, this marks the beginning of an essential stage in the apple production process: pollination. The pollination occurs naturally, aided by insects such as bees and it’s at this stage that our team closely monitors and assits the trees to ensure the highest possible success rate.

3. Fruit Development

With successful pollination, the tiny apple blossoms transform into miniature fruit, gradually maturing into the plump, green apples we know and love. Throughout the growing season, we closely monitor the orchards, providing the necessary care and attention to support optimal fruit development. Thinning may be required to ensure that each apple receives ample nutrients and space to reach its full potential, ultimately contributing to superior fruit quality.

4. Harvest

Harvesting bramley apples is a meticulous process, with each apple carefully inspected and hand-picked at the peak of ripeness. Our experienced team of orchard workers ensure that only the finest apples make their way to the processing facilities, where they undergo further sorting and quality control measures. Our storage facilities have been upgraded to ensure that our apples are stored in ULO (Ultra Low Oxygen) conditions to ensure high quality apples for processing year round.

5. Processing

Upon arrival at the processing facility, the apples undergo a series of rigorous quality checks to ensure that only the best fruit is used in our products. Any apples that do not meet our stringent standards are discarded or redirected for alternative use. The selected apples are then washed, sorted, and processed according to their intended end use, whether it be fresh market sales or processing into sauces, pie filings, and purees.
